Datetime (tag)
From SnapMap
datetime=<datetime> is the usual way to denote timestamp resolved to 1 second. It is the natural method to record date and time from EXIF data in digital photographs.
Possible errors
There are several reasons for not relying on the accuracy of arbitrary EXIF date and time data, including the following:
- Though stored to an accuracy of one second, it is difficult to know how accurate the camera's clock was when the photo was taken.
- Unknown daylight saving status is very common: if the camera doesn't handle it automatically, users often do not update the time in the camera.
- Incorrect timezone settings, common during or after a trans-timezone holiday, are common. Even if a user keeps their camera to UTC independent of place or time of year, the user would have to communicate that habit to all consumers of that EXIF data.
- The date and time may never have been set on the camera since it was bought.
- The year is sometimes wrongly set.
